Wangyou (忘憂) means to forget about the sadness.
That's the reason of this forest formed.

Introduction
Wangyou Forest are formed because of the 921 earthquake, the biggest eqrthquake in the Taiwan history.
Because of the earthquake, the land was shaped, stuck the exit of the river and formed as the swamp.
The cedar were drowned by the tranquil water, also the time, like they all stopped and forget the sadness followed by the earthquake.

How to get there
Public transportation
- Take buses from Taichung or Nantou Train Station to Shuttle Bus Station
You must tell the bus driver you want to get off nearby the Wangyou Forest. There is no official bus station for Wangyou Forest.

Highly recommended to get the forest by drive since the bus may delay or the less frequency of buses.

Highly recommend take the shuttle bus despite it’s very excited. The way of hiking is same as the shuttle bus goes, so you have to dodge the buses frequently. Furthermore, the slope is about 45°. It may cost 50 min-1 hr to get there.
BTW, you can't drive by your own because of the property right of land.
